Part 3 -- En-masse Conveyor: Motor Overload or Burnout (Common Problem)

The buried scraper conveyor (En-masse conveyor)  is a device that uses scraper chains to drag materials inside a closed shell for continuous transportation, and is widely used in industries such as grain, mining, and chemicals. Due to its complex working environment (such as dust, high temperature, and significant differences in material characteristics), various problems are prone to occur during actual operation. The following are common problems, their causes, and solutions:

Motor Overload or Burnout

Phenomenon: The motor current exceeds the rated value, causing tripping or motor overheating and burnout.

Common Causes:

• Excessive Conveying Resistance: Such as material blockage, chain jamming (foreign objects caught), or shell deformation causing scraper jamming.

• Improper Motor Selection: Insufficient power to drive the equipment at full load.

• Transmission System Failure: Damaged reducer gears, seized couplings, leading to a sudden increase in load.

Solutions:

• Identify and Resolve Sources of Resistance: Clear the blocked material, remove foreign objects, and repair deformed casings or scrapers.

• Verify Motor Parameters: Ensure that the motor power matches the design load of the equipment (especially considering the static friction resistance of the material during startup).

• Inspect and Maintain the Transmission System: Regularly check the oil level in the reducer, inspect gear wear, and replace damaged couplings or bearings.
