Part 2 -- En-masse Conveyor: Conveyor Blockage (Most Common Problem)

The buried scraper conveyor (En-masse conveyor)  is a device that uses scraper chains to drag materials inside a closed shell for continuous transportation, and is widely used in industries such as grain, mining, and chemicals. Due to its complex working environment (such as dust, high temperature, and significant differences in material characteristics), various problems are prone to occur during actual operation. The following are common problems, their causes, and solutions:

Excessive wear and tear of equipment

Phenomenon: Scrapers, chains, shell bottom plates or side plates wear out too quickly, shortening their service life.

Common reasons:

High Abrasiveness of Materials: Hard particulate materials such as ores and quartz sand cause intense friction with scrapers/shells.

Excessive Chain Tension: This leads to increased contact pressure between the chain and sprocket, as well as between the scraper and the housing, resulting in accelerated wear.

Insufficient lubrication: The chain pin and sprocket bearings lack oil, and dry friction accelerates wear.

The gap between the scraper and the shell is too small: Direct friction between scraper and shell during operation (especially when there is less material).

Solution:

Selection of wear-resistant materials: The scraper and shell are made of high manganese steel or wear-resistant cast iron; The chain is treated with carburizing and quenching.

Adjust Tension Reasonably: The chain tension should be adjusted so that there is "no obvious sagging and no jumping during operation" (sagging amount ≤ 2% of chain length).

Regular lubrication: Add lubricating grease to the chain pin shaft and sprocket bearings (choose dust-proof/high-temperature lubricating grease according to material characteristics).

Optimize Gaps: Ensure that the clearance between the scraper and the shell meets the design value to avoid direct friction.
