Part 4 -- En-masse Conveyor: Chain Failures(Breakage,Derailment,Chain Jumping)

Author :

• Chain suddenly breaks. • The scraper chain deviates from the guide rail(derailment). • Poor meshing between the chain and sprocket(chain jumping).

Phenomena:

• Chain suddenly breaks.

• The scraper chain deviates from the guide rail(derailment).

• Poor meshing between the chain and sprocket(chain jumping).

Common Causes:

Chain Breakage:

• Long-term overload operation, causing fatigue damage to the chain.

• Loose or worn chain connecting pins, leading to increased pitch and localized stress concentration.

• Material defects(e.g.,poor welding/forging).

Derailment/Chain Jumping:

• Insufficient chain tension, causing it to sag during operation.

• Uneven installation of the guide rail(lateral offset or height difference).

• Deformed scraper, causing it to“run off course”and pull the chain out of alignment.

Solutions:

• Regular Chain Inspection:Replace severely worn chain sections or connecting pins to avoid fatigue use;select qualified chains(must meet tensile strength standards).

• Adjust Tensioning Device:Ensure proper chain tension through the tail tensioning wheel or screw tensioner.

• Align Guide Rails:Reinstall or adjust guide rails to ensure their straightness and levelness(tolerance≤2 mm/m).

• Repair Scrapers:Replace deformed scrapers to ensure even force distribution during operation.
