Screw Conveyor: Efficient Bulk Material Conveying, Simple Structure.

Author :

The screw conveyor mainly consists of the drive device, solid screw, casing, inlets and outlets, and other components. Here are the detailed introductions:

• Drive Device: The drive device is the power source of the screw conveyor, comprising an electric motor, a reducer, and a coupling. The electric motor provides the rotational power. The reducer adjusts the speed to protect the screw shaft from damage caused by excessive rotational speed. The coupling is responsible for transmitting the power smoothly to the screw shaft.

• Solid Screw: The solid screw is the core component of the conveyor, made up of the screw shaft and the spiral blades welded onto it. The shape and material of the spiral blades vary depending on the conveyed material. Common shapes include solid spiral, belt spiral, and paddle spiral. The solid spiral has a simple structure and strong conveying capacity, suitable for conveying dry granular or powdered materials with good dispersibility. The belt spiral is used for conveying blocky, viscous materials. The paddle spiral not only conveys materials but also has a strong mixing and stirring effect.

• Casing: The casing is used to protect the screw and guide the direction of material conveyance. Common casing shapes are U-shaped and circular. The U-shaped casing is suitable for horizontal material conveyance and is convenient for observation and cleaning. The circular casing has better sealing properties and is often used in environments where sealing is required, such as conveying materials with a large amount of dust or toxic and harmful substances.

• Inlets and Outlets: These include the inlet and outlet for the material. The position and shape of the inlets and outlets can be designed according to the actual conveying process requirements. Common inlet types are hopper and pipe, while outlet types include square outlet, hand-pushed outlet, and rack outlet.

• Auxiliary Components: These include thrust bearings and intermediate hanger bearings. The thrust bearing, usually installed at the head, is used to bear the axial force generated by the resistance of the conveyed material. The intermediate hanger bearing supports the longer screw shaft to reduce the load on the spiral blades and maintain the stability of the conveyor. There are two common types: rolling hanger bearing and sliding hanger bearing. The rolling hanger bearing has good sealing effects and is suitable for places where it is difficult to add oil or where oil can contaminate the material. The sliding hanger bearing is often used for conveying materials at higher temperatures.
