What Are the Causes of Chain Floating in En-masse conveyor/ Buried Scraper Conveyor?
Author :
Tightened scraper chain, excessive wear on the ends of the scraper, severe wear of the trough sides, excessive bending during trough pushing, missing scrapers, and blockage of gangue under the scraper chain can all lead to chain floating.
What Are the Causes of Chain Floating in En-masse conveyor/ Buried Scraper Conveyor?
The reasons for chain floating in a En-masse conveyor/ buried scraper conveyor (referring to the scraper chain deviating from its normal operating track, lifting upward, or shaking) mainly include the following categories:
Problems with the scraper chain itself:
• Excessive chain tension: When the chain tension is too high, it loses its normal sag and the ability to fit snugly against the trough. During operation, it is more likely to “float” upward.
Wear of key components:
• Excessive wear on the ends of the scraper: The scraper is a core component in contact with the material and trough. When the ends are excessively worn, its guiding and scraping functions are weakened, and it cannot fit stably against the trough, leading to chain deviation and floating.
• Severe wear of the trough sides: The trough sides provide the running track for the scraper chain. When they are severely worn, the track becomes irregular or the clearance is too large. The scraper chain loses effective constraint and is more likely to float.
Improper installation and adjustment of the equipment:
• Excessive bending during trough pushing: When adjusting the position of the trough (pushing the trough), if the bending radius is too small, exceeding the design limits of the equipment, the scraper chain will experience lateral forces at the bend, causing it to deviate from the track and float.
Missing or damaged components:
• Missing scraper: If some scrapers are lost, the load-bearing and guiding balance of the chain is disrupted. The remaining scrapers cannot evenly bear the load and guiding functions, leading to unstable chain operation and floating.
Foreign object jamming:
• Foreign objects such as gangue jammed under the scraper chain: During conveying, if gangue (waste rock from mining/ore dressing) or other large debris gets jammed between the scraper chain and the trough, it will lift the scraper chain upward, causing it to float.
