Picking up from our previous blog

The chain of the En-masse conveyor is the core transmission and load-bearing component. The choice of chain type directly affects the conveying efficiency, service life, and applicable working conditions of the equipment. Below is a detailed introduction to the common chain types in the industry, focusing on the practicality in bulk material conveying scenarios and the technical points of concern to international customers.
Classification by Material(to Adapt to Different Working Conditions)
1. Carbon Steel Chain
Material: High-quality carbon steel such as 40Mn and 20CrMnTi, after quenching and tempering, the hardness can reach HRC45-55.
Advantages: Low cost and high strength, suitable for conventional working conditions(normal temperature, non-corrosive, medium-hard materials).
Limitations: Poor corrosion resistance, not suitable for humid or acidic and alkaline environments.
2. Stainless Steel Chain
Material: 304, 316L stainless steel, with good corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance(≤400℃).
Advantages: Sanitary standard, no rust risk, suitable for conveying corrosive materials or in clean environments in the food, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries.
Application Scenarios: Conveying materials such as salt, acid and alkali solutions, and food raw materials, meeting the strict hygiene and safety requirements of the European and American markets.
3. Alloy Chain
Material: Alloy materials such as chromium-molybdenum steel and nickel-chromium steel, after carburizing and quenching treatment, the hardness is≥HRC60. It has excellent wear resistance, high-temperature resistance, and tensile strength.
Advantages: Suitable for extreme working conditions(high temperature, heavy load, strong wear), with a service life 2-3 times that of carbon steel chains.
Application Scenarios: Conveying high-temperature slag, hard ores, etc., in the metallurgy and mining industries. It is a high-end choice for demanding industrial scenarios.
Selection Suggestions
Selection Based on Material Characteristics:
- Light, Non-Viscous Materials(such as grains, plastic granules): Prioritize double-pitch roller chain, balancing efficiency and energy savings.
- Heavy, Hard Materials(such as ores, slag): First choice is plate chain, ensuring load-bearing capacity and durability.
- Viscous, Corrosive Materials(such as sludge, acid and alkali raw materials): Choose stainless steel scraper chain to avoid material adhesion and chain rust.
Selection Based on Working Conditions:
- Conveying Length>30m, Inclination>30°: Recommend plate chain or alloy scraper chain to enhance stability.
- Conveying Speed>1.2m/s, High Flow Rate: Double-pitch roller chain or bushed roller chain is more suitable.
- High Temperature(>250℃), Humid Environment: Stainless steel or alloy material chains are a must.
Selection Based on International Standards:
- Export to European and American Markets: Prioritize chains that meet ANSI(American Standard)or ISO(International Standard)to ensure interchangeability and compliance.
- High Wear Resistance and Long Service Life: Recommend chains with surface phosphating and shot peening treatments to improve fatigue resistance.
Summary
The chain type of the En-masse conveyor needs to be comprehensively selected based on material characteristics, working conditions, customer budget, and export standards. Bushed roller chain and plate chain are the mainstream choices in the international market, covering general-purpose and heavy-load scenarios respectively. Stainless steel and alloy material chains provide solutions for special working conditions(corrosion, high temperature, strong wear).
